I’ve been researching the true story behind my novel Lilac Girls for over ten years now and I’m still so excited to find new photos of Caroline Ferriday, one of the main characters in the story. I love the one of Caroline and her pony, above, under the porte cochere in front of her country home, The Hay, in Bethlehem, Connecticut.

Below, the three original barns on the Ferriday property. Caroline’s mother Eliza Ferriday later donated the center barn to Bethlehem’s Abbey of Regina Laudis, to house their exquisite Italian creche. Thanks to Mrs. Ferriday visitors can view the creche in its snug home today.
