I was nervous about seeing the cover for my first novel, Lilac Girls, based on the true story of how Caroline Ferriday, a New York socialite, rallied America around a group of Polish survivors of a Nazi concentration camp. But Penguin Random House Art Director Paolo Pepe didn’t disappoint. It was love at first sight. He somehow captured the 1940-50s era, while still making it feel clean and modern.
Can’t wait for April 4th so everyone can read the story behind this great cover!

I loved your novel! I am a docent at our Holocaust Museum here in Dallas, Texas. I am very much into learning and reading about the Holocaust, both academic and historical fiction. I could hardly put Lilac Girls down!
I do have a question. I don’t think I understand the cover picture. Surely the three women in the photo aren’t Caroline, Kasia and Herta. They obviously would never be walking together laughing. Is it Caroline, Kasia and Zuzanna? Sorry if this is a dumb, obvious question.
