I love this story. In 1935, little Hessy Taft’s mother brought her to a photographer in Berlin to have her picture taken. Later, the family was shocked to find Hessy’s photo was chosen as that which best represented the Nazi Aryan ideal for the perfect baby. Soon the family found Hessy’s picture plastered all over Nazi propaganda, even on the cover of Sonne ins Hause, a major Nazi family magazine and learned the photo had been chosen personally by the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Mr. and Mrs. Taft kept young Hessy at home, fearing the press might find out that the family was Jewish. The secret stayed safe and the family fled Germany in the late thirties, to Paris, Cuba and finally the United States. 
According to the London Telegraph story, “Today the Jewish woman who was once a Nazi poster child is a professor of chemistry in New York. “I feel a little revenge,” she said of presenting her photograph to Yad Vashem. “Something like satisfaction.”
