This wonderful book was such a help with researching Caroline Ferriday’s family summer home, for my novel Lilac Girls. 272 Gin Lane, once known as The Mitchell Cottage, is included in the book. The house once belonged to Caroline’s mother, Eliza Woolsey Mitchell Ferriday.

Gin Lane (aka Dune Road) is a three-mile long oceanfront strip on which 19 original cottages remain. Sally Spanburgh calls the book “an elaborately narrated walking tour of Gin Lane,” and uses her considerable expertise to present the stories behind these lovely “cottages” (they are hardly cottages, but big old lovely, sprawling houses.) She has done such thorough research it makes for a fascinating read.
